May 8. “Remember the story about the Olive Ridley turtles I told you about and how the Orissa government was postponing the launch of some missile so the turtles could breed in peace?”
“I remember.”
“Now look at this picture. The caption says—Helping Little Friends. This little boy armed with a bucket is helping baby turtles reach the Bay of Bengal so they can swim away and survive.”
“This is so touching.”
“What does he know about saving the environment or extinction or global warming? And I doubt if he’s been told to save the lives of these baby turtles but he’s still doing his bit because he feels that’s what ought to be done.”
“You think people are going to realize their mistakes and rectify them so this world takes a turn for the better?”
“I don’t know and I don’t think so. Greed plays a much larger role in our lives. Why would anyone think of saving the tiger or stop our glaciers from melting or make this world a better place for future generations! I simply love that song by Michael Jackson called ‘HEAL THE WORLD, MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE FOR YOU AND FOR ME AND THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE… The song is playing in the background—are you listening?”
“I am.”
