January 12. “I’ll show you something if you promise not to make fun of me.”
“Why on earth would I do that, Button!”
“I’ve written a poem. Do you want to read it?”
“I’d love to.”
WHY?
Why does the sun rise in the east?
Why do dogs bark and cats mew?
Why do earthquakes happen?
Why does the owl stalk its prey at night?
Why do trees change colour?
Why do we shout when we are angry?
Why don’t we laugh when we are sad?
Why do we cry when we are hurt?
Why do birds lay eggs from which hatch their young?
Why do humans give birth to their young ones live?
Why do fish eat their young?
Why do reptiles shed their skin?
Why do we need to grow old?
Why do our skins sag with age?
Why is loneliness a constant companion as we advance in life?
Why can’t we stay young always?
Why is death inevitable?
Is there heaven and hell?
Is there life after death?
Who knows? Who can tell?
“Why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Hey, Button. That’s a nice attempt.”
“Honest?”
“Touch my heart.”
