October 17. “Button, today is Dashera, the tenth day of Durga puja. Most of the idols will be immersed today.”

“Happy Dashera. Let’s proceed with our story?”

“Of-course.”

The red sofa had a surprise visitor one morning. The lady of the house suddenly felt like sitting in the sun for 10-15 minutes to get her daily doze of vitamin D.

The red sofa was thrilled. B

This continued for a couple of weeks till one of the family members decided to change the décor of the living room and get the red sofa to the centre of the hall making her part of the main living area.

The red sofa is happy that she does all those things she used to do there plus has company. B

She has become my younger daughter’s new companion and still gets to see the television but from much closer.

She’s only dreading the day the dogs will trample on her and her sheen will fade. B

“I’m not as excited about this story as I was with the earlier one.”

“I know what you mean. We’ll try and brush it up a little to make it more exciting.”

But the Red Sofa will miss the window, the plants, the sun and all the excitement of the outside world. Even though it was in the corner, it had its own space and solitude.

  You see, The Red Sofa is an introvert. She likes keeping to herself and does not like to shout and scream and tell everyone what she wants. She likes adjusting to everyone’s needs. This was one such circumstance and she made the best use of wherever she was shifted to.

Do sofas really get thrilled when people sit on them? I thought they would be more happy if people left the sofas alone.
