October 15. “Button, will you begin the story?”
“Happily. Shall we call the story The Red Sofa?”
“That’s the title we decided on.”
THE RED SOFA
She returned after having chosen some furniture for the house and announced—We’ve bought the piece-de-resistance. You’ll love her when she arrives. B
What is it? Asked everyone.
She’s flaming red and very pretty. Take a wild guess. We have to find room for her. B
A week after the main sofa was brought in, she arrived in all her glory. Shall we place her at the back? She’ll light up the entire house.
So she occupied a corner of the house where all the plants were kept. Her flaming red and the greenery made that corner of the living room very bright and cheerful. B
A tiny snail who had strayed from one of the pots asked the red sofa—But why are you all alone? You have been dumped in this corner and no one has any time for you! You must be bored and hating it. With your looks, you should be in a place where the whole world can see you.
You are right little snail but there’s nothing I can do. The family felt I looked good here and, therefore, sat me down in this corner. Actually I am quite happy in my corner because I don’t have the dogs jumping on me day and night. B
“We’ll continue the story tomorrow. I feel sleepy, Button. Goodnight.
“Goodnight.”
