March 25. “Button, another landmark, the Flury’s on Park Street in Kolkata, has downed its shutters. Alas”
“Have you been there?”
“Umpteen times. With Dost. With both my daughters when we were in the city some time back. I’ve been there with my father a few times. There is no way a true blue Kolkattan will not pay a visit to the tearoom when he visits the city. Tea, sandwiches, pastries and fruit cakes are some of the preferred items.”
“But why has it shut?”
“It’s shut temporarily, or so I hear. The building caught fire.”
“Do your daughters remember the place?”
“Clearly.”
“How old is Flury’s?”
“It was set up in 1927 which makes it 83. Apart from the food served, the old world charm with its liveried waiters was charming. Each of the waiters has been around for years and we’d be greeted by familiar faces each time we went back. Leopold’s in Mumbai is somewhat similar but, I assume, Flurry is much older.”
“Let’s hope it reopens shortly.”
“Touche!”
