My dear Sheena,

Are you in Stockholm to celebrate a white Christmas with your family? Whatever it is, have a wonderful time. We just got back after spending five lovely days in the Maldives snorkelling, eating some great food, playing cards and generally chilling.

Merry Christmas ma’am! Do you celebrate? We have a small christmas tree at home which we decorated with lights…this is the first year we decided to do this and it was great fun!

  Of-course we celebrate Christmas. I am not boasting but we have a huge Christmas tree in our terrace garden which is decorated with bells, santa figurines, the Star of Bethlehem and lots of lights. She is the tree I instructed our mali to chop off from the top because she had grown too tall. I was later reprimanded by my husband who cited that I had hurt the tree.

  You can say that again. God, in his infinite kindness and love for us, gives us so much but the ungrateful wretches that we are, we crib about the few things we may not have received yet forget to thank him for all the goodness he has showered us with.
  
  I wonder sometimes why we are so ungrateful!

I have so much to thank God for. I was blessed with a baby girl in August who is healthy and well. My parents are with us and we will be bringing in 2019 with them. They are also healthy and fine. I really am so fortunate…

  We too have daughters and haven’t thanked God enough yet. Daughters are wonderful and, as they grow older, become friends.
  
  Sons, like you, who take take good care of their ageing parents are far and between because I’ve also known sons who have driven their aged parents out of the homes where their parents are the rightful owners of that house or sent their parents to an old people’s home on the advice of their wives!
  
  I haven’t heard about daughters doing that!

Not all of us are so fortunate though…I lost my 8 year old golden retreiver last month and I just don’t know how to deal with it…my whole family is inconsolable…this poor guy was left homeless on the streets by his previous owners and we ended up adopting him…sadly he developed a very severe skin infection and could not recover from it….we are in no mood to celebrate anything anymore.

  I understand very well what you and your family must be going through after losing your golden retriever. When we lost our boxer several years back, I howled for months after, remembering him. Even now, when I think of him, I have tears in my eyes.
  
  These animals make their way into your heart so easily and, when they go away, leave a huge gaping hole in it.
