February 22. 8am. I heard the sound of snoring and tracked down the sound to the room occupied by Button.
“Are you snoring, Button?”
There was silence.
“Button, are you there?”
More snoring followed. I finally entered the room and found Button fast asleep on his tummy.
February 22. 7pm.
“Button, I heard you snore! And loudly too!”
“Don’t be silly.”
“This morning. When I came to the study to look up the dictionary for a meaning.”
“I don’t believe it.”
“But I distinctly heard you snoring this morning. At 8. You’re an early riser. How come you were asleep at 8? What time did you come back from the party last night and when did you go to bed?”
“I came back around midnight and promptly fell asleep. But I flossed and brushed my teeth.”
“Don’t stay out that late. Try and get back by 11 at the latest.”
“I’ll remember. But I must tell you who I met on my way to Fluffy’s. I was sitting in front with the driver when I turned to the left suddenly and saw another teddy in the car beside ours. She had her hair tied in pigtails and suddenly looked out of the window and our eyes met. I now understand what LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT means. We couldn’t take our eyes away from each other. What I did then—sheer presence of mind—was write my cell number on a blank sheet of paper and put it up for her to see. She blinked her long lashes to tell me that she knew what I wanted her to do. I went and narrated the whole incident to Fluffy. He and his family are overjoyed.”
“Now I know why you got back home past midnight.”
“Why? I didn’t go on a date.”
