December 19. “Button, how do you fold a giraffe?”

December 19. “Button, how do you fold a giraffe?”

“What kind of question is that?”

“A simple one. How do you fold a giraffe?”

“I don’t know. How?”

“If you know the art of origami, you can.”

“And what, may I ask, is origami?”

“It is the art of folding bits of paper into animals, jewellery, tiles and floral arrangements. Even motor-powered exhibits are made entirely from folding paper.”

“Amazing. Can you tell me a little more about this art?”

“Derived from ori meaning ‘folding’ and gami meaning ‘paper’, origami is the traditional Japanese art of folding a single sheet of paper into 3D objects. Since paper was expensive when origami was invented, the Japanese used this art for decorating special occasions like weddings.”

“Extraordinary.”
