Dear Readers, you may notice the dates of the Blog do not match the Flash Post dates which are in real time. The blog was written in 2009 and saw the light of day 6 months back when my younger daughter discovered it and decided to bring it to you here.
December 18. “Button, did you just watch the video with me?”

December 18. “Button, did you just watch the video with me?”

“I did. It showed people tossing teddy bears of all shapes and sizes onto an ice rink.”

“The great Calgary teddy toss is an annual ritual where fans of a Canadian ice hockey team tossed an incredible 23,096 teddy bears on to the rink this weekend – but it was not out of protest as to how their team were performing. Instead, the Calgary Hitman were keeping up an annual tradition where fans toss bears onto the ice so players can later deliver them to a charity they pick.

“Who was the lucky winner this year?”

“This year’s lucky recipient was Alberta’s Children’s hospital, with the players all visiting the hospital the day after the game to deliver the toys.”

“Did they mention which year brought in the maximum teddy bears?”

“Yes, The Hitmen, who are co-owned by former WWF champion Bret ‘the Hitman’ Hart, own the world record for the Teddy Bear Toss with 26,919 at a similar event in 2007.”

P.S. Incidentally, the picture above is of the ice rink strewn with teddy bears.
