The Princess and the Pea | Flash Post 464

Are you going to tell us a story?

Yes, Button, but first my own real-life experience that reminded me of a fairy tale I had read as a child called The Princess and the Pea so you can see the similarity between the two!

What are you waiting for!

When I went to bed 3 nights back, my hand touched something small and hard underneath the bedsheet. I dismissed it and promptly fell asleep after making a note in my head that I would ask the maid to check it out the next morning. However, during the course of the night, my fingers kept grazing past the bump and kept me awake and guessing as to what it could be!

Did you find out what the mysterious object was?

The maid—as per instructions given to her—removes the bedsheet every day to dust it, vacuum the mattress underneath before tucking back the bedsheet and I felt this would have dislodged whatever was stuck under the sheet from the previous night and didn’t mention it to her.

And?

When I got ready for bed that night, my first act was to run my hand over the same spot and take a wild guess what I found, Button!

Don’t tell me! You mean to say you found the same hard something at the same spot for a second night?

You’re right! And, subconsciously, my hand grazed past it a few times that stopped me from getting a perfect night’s sleep with me making a note in my head again that I would reprimand the maid for hurriedly doing her job!

Did you?

No, and the tiny and hard something was still there! My eagerness to find out what it could be got the better of me so I yanked out the sheet and guess what I found!

What?

I tiny white sugar ball that must have rolled off from the silver foil packaging while I was having my homeopathy pills for arthritis!

Did you sleep that night?

It was the most amazing sleep I had slept in a while!

Next comes the story of The Princess and the Pea, I am guessing!

It’s a fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson about a prince who is trying to find a real princess for a bride for himself when some of the other girls he’s met with have been unsuccessful.

What happens next?

A beautiful young girl, caught in a storm and claiming to be a princess, finds shelter at the home of the prince. However, the prince’s mother, the queen, has doubts about her lineage. She welcomes the girl in, gives her some hot soup and bread and puts her up in the guest bedroom after placing a hard uncooked pea under layers of mattresses.

And!

The next morning, the mysterious woman informs them that she had not slept a wink because something hard under the mattresses had kept her awake the whole night!

The story must have ended with the prince’s family accepting that she was a real princess because only a true princess could be so delicate!

So, like all fairy tales, the prince and princess get married and live happily ever after.

I see the similarity, princess!
