Our Girls Are Unsafe | Flash Post 351

Button, you must have read the news about the young 7-year old girl living in a shanty on the pavements of GTB Nagar who has been shackled to her bed day and night because her mother fears she could well be a victim of rape following the kidnapping, rape and murder of a 5 year old girl in Mahim?

I’ve seen the photographs in the mid-day and have read the story too. It’s shameful. And sad.

This is PM Modi’s government for you where “Beti bachao, beti padhao” is oneĀ  more slogan in a stable of other slogans like “Make in India”, “Pehle Shauchalaya, Phir Devalaya”, “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” which have hardly taken off!

Her parents have also taken her out of school and, because, she’s a sprightly little kid made her sit at home so they can keep a close watch over her.

It’s very sad because a seven-year old would want to play and run wild with her kin and friends but there are no parks left and, it’s unlikely she’d have access to an iPad that rich brats do, to have some fun. Do you understand the extent of fear in her parents’ minds where they have been literally pushed to a wall to make her a prisoner in her own home?

No parent would like to do that unless they are terrified!

Absolutely. It would have been nice if our PM had framedĀ  just a few slogans and seen them materialise rather than framing dozens and hardly have any take off.
