November 17. “Button, do you ever hear your stomach growl?”
“No, never. Why? Does yours?”
“All the time.”
“That means you never eat to fill your stomach properly!”
“Stomachs growl not only when they are hungry but also when we eat. When we eat, the food passes down the digestive track, releasing a lot of gas as well as absorbing nutrients. All this activity creates all the noise we get to hear.”
“It must be quite embarrassing.”
“You’re telling me! I still remember the evening our family traveled with some friends to have dinner with someone in London. Once we were there, my friend’s stomach and mine started playing this symphony and refused to stop. She would look at me and I at her till the hostess, very politely and diplomatically, suggested that we should go in and have dinner. That was clearly one of the most embarrassing moments of my life.”
