March 22. Button was kept out of this talk between my elder daughter and me:
Daughter: What is Button’s date of birth?
Me: April 1!
Daughter: He was born on April Fool’s Day?
Me: You can see that for yourself.
Daughter: Let’s plan a party for him without actually telling him about it. And since it is on April Fool’s Day, we’ll pretend we’ve forgotten that it is his birthday and spring a surprise on him.
Me: That’s not a bad idea. I only hope his friends don’t plan something for him.
Daughter: We’ll also invite Fluffy and his family.
Me: Do you know he has a girlfriend?
Daughter: No, I didn’t! We must call her too. I want to meet up with her. You leave the party planning to me. Just tell me what Button likes to eat.
Me: He’s trying to become a vegetarian and loves bhel. We’ll make bhel, some pani puri and different kinds of chaat. We’ll end the meal with raspberry jelly and vanilla icecream.
Daughter: Done.
