It Goes On | Flash Post 415
What are you talking about?
That’s how American poet, Robert Frost, saw life.
That’s beautiful.
Button, we constantly talk about our own lives. About other lives too. But what about the life of life?
I’ve never given it a thought.
It could be fun to track life.
Can we question life?
Of course we can. Please go ahead and have that conversation.
Button: Hello, life. Can you hear me? Are you there?
I’M IN YOU. HAVE ALWAYS BEEN. AND, YES, I HEAR YOU.
Button: My day starts at 7 every morning. When do you wake up?
HONESTLY, BUTTON, THERE’S NO DAY OR NIGHT IN MY LIFE. FOR ME, ONE DAY ROLLS INTO ANOTHER AND THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AS FAR BACK AS I CAN REMEMBER.
Button: What do you do when the whole world sleeps?
I AM YOUR GUARD WHEN YOU SLEEP. I WATCH OVER YOU SO YOU CAN GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP. YOU, HIM, THAT STRAY CROSSING THE ROAD. I AM IN EVERY LIFE ON LAND AND SEA, IN THAT EAGLE THAT’S SOARING IN THE SKY AND THAT CHAFFINCH IN YOUR BACKYARD WHO WOKE YOU UP WITH HIS SONG THIS MORNING. I AM IN THE CLOUDS UP THERE. THE LEAVES SWAYING IN THE BREEZE. IN THOSE PEOPLE WAITING AT THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL FOR IT TO TURN GREEN. IN A BLADE OF GRASS AND IN THAT SNAIL RIGHT NEXT TO YOUR FOOT, TO NAME A FEW.
Button: Are you proud of your handiwork or are you vain because we owe our lives to you?
VAIN! NOT IN THE LEAST. BUT PROUD, DEFINITELY. THIS UNIVERSE IS BREATHING, MOVING AND EXISTING BEFORE MY EYES. I AM ONE PROUD PARENT.
Button: Do you eat? What’s your favourite cuisine?
NOT IN A WAY YOU EAT. I FIND SUCCOUR IN EVERY LIFE. I FEAST IN THE FACT THAT I AM THE REASON FOR EVERYTHING THAT SPELLS LIFE.
Button: Is death a friend or foe?
IN FACT, WE GET ALONG FAMOUSLY. WE ARE MATES. YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT THERE HAS TO BE DEATH IF THERE’S LIFE. LIFE CAN’T LIVE ON FOREVER. DEATH HANDLES LIVES THAT HAVE PASSED THEIR TURN TO BE. THERE’S NOTHING SAD ABOUT DEATH. YES, IT’S SAD WHEN YOU LOSE LOVED ONES TO DEATH BUT LIFE AND DEATH GO HAND IN HAND.
Button: Have the two of you ever fought?
YOU KNOW WE’VE FOUGHT WHEN YOU EXPERIENCE STORMS, THUNDERSHOWERS, FLOODS AND MORE SUCH.
Button: What about them?
WE TUSSLE WHEN DEATH UNFAIRLY WANTS TO SNATCH AWAY A LIFE WHOSE TIME IS NOT UP. THE CALM AFTERWARDS INDICATES THAT ONE OF US HAS WON.
Button: What happens after we die?
IT’S CALLED THE CIRCLE OF LIFE. LIFE PASSES THROUGH STAGES LIKE CHILDHOOD, ADULTHOOD, THE SILVER YEARS AND THEN THE END.
Button: Your job must be a pleasing one than the one death handles.
I DON’T THINK SO. I DO MINE AND HE HIS.
Button: Have you been to school?
NO, BECAUSE LIFE HAS TAUGHT ME EVERYTHING I KNOW. I LEARN FROM EVERY LIFE I LIVE WITHIN.
Button: Do you have friends?
I HAVE ONE NOW. LIKEWISE, YOUR FRIENDS ARE ALSO MY FRIENDS. I HAVE AN UNIVERSE FULL OF FRIENDS. HOW MANY FRIENDS DO YOU HAVE?
Button: Not an universe but certainly some I can count on. Who’s your best friend?
DEATH, BECAUSE WE WORK IN TANDEM AND OUR DISAGREEMENTS LEAD TO A PERFECT BALANCE IN THE UNIVERSE.
Button: CAN YOU PLEASE PASS ON A MESSAGE TO DEATH WHEN YOU MEET HIM NEXT?
WHY NOT! MAYBE A TALK WITH HIM WILL CLEAR SOME DOUBTS IN YOUR MIND.
Button: This COVID thing— could it be happening because this balance between life and death has gone awry?
POSSIBLY.
Button: Is it because you held on to some of your favourite people from crossing over to the other side?
YOU’RE PERCEPTIVE. MAYBE I DID.
