1. Vape has been chosen as the word of 2014 by Oxford Dictionary. It means to inhale or exhale the vapour produced by an electronic cigarette. This title is usually given to a word that has been used exponentially during the year to date.
2. A Chihuahua named Frida has been named Mayor of San Francisco for a day as part of a campaign to support the city’s animal shelter.
3. UK’s first bio-bus powered by human and food waste has gone into service between Bristol and Bath. The bus can travel up to 300 kms on a full tank of gas generated from food waste and human excreta.
4. I have already written about Sheru, the stray, who survived after being shot at CST by terrorists during the 26/11 attack in one of my earlier daily posts. Sheru is 15 now and still rather fit. Lodged at SPCA, he gets visitors very often and lives in a separate 50 sq ft enclosure in the hospital. He’s a loner by nature but prefers human company.
5. A blast in a cesspool that took place in central China knocked down a building and injured 15 people. The blast, apparently, happened when a man burnt waste close to the cesspool which ignited methane gas emanating from the pit.
6. Latest study has revealed that human poo may be used to power future portable technology like tablets, laptops and cell phones.
7. A television channel for dogs! German TV broadcaster Deutsche Telekom has announced the launch of a channel called DogTV designed especially for dogs. DogTV started to broadcast Sunday in Germany and up to 7 million dogs will be able to watch programmes specially designed for them. The purpose behind this launch is not to get dogs addicted to the television but an alternative to the monotony our pets experience when left alone at home.
8. Collector Jena Pang, 36, is about to auction his teddy bear collection for a tidy sum of £100,000. Pang spent 12 years amassing an enormous collection of more than 500 rare toy bears dating back to early 1900 worth hundreds of thousands of pounds each. The bears are in mint condition and are said to be one of the finest single-owner collection of vintage teddies ever to come up for auction.”
