“Button, can you spot the crow on the water bowl? She actually flew in this morning demanding that we give her water! Ever since the BMC sent out a stricture saying that open water bodies should be controlled and kept dry as much as possible, the bowls of water kept on the terrace for our little feathered friends are drained out at night to get refilled every morning at around 8. It must have been around 8.15 when the bowls had not been refilled when I found this crow land on the garden fence, look at the upturned bowl, then look around to check the other bowls and throw a fit by screeching loudly! For a second I was irritated with her shrill tone so early in the morning but it did not take me much time to realise that she was angry because there was no water for her to drink. I quickly ran to the kitchen, got a bottle of water and poured it into the bowl. In no time, she was down, perched on the side of the bowl, drinking up the water and, once in a while, turning her head to look at me. I pointed this out to Dost who seemed astounded! This understanding between man and beast is simply amazing. Perhaps this universe would have known a little more peace and quietude had we understood each other in silence.”
