This photo of crows riding atop a double-decker bus with the safety message in today’s TOI says it all.

Crows are by far one of the cleverest birds. They are also extremely shrewd, manipulative and dangerous. See Hitchcock’s film “Birds” and you’ll know why I’m saying this.

Incidentally, I’ve just made friends with one who comes and perches on the kitchen window and caws away loudly till I feed him. I call him Caw.

‘Birds’ by Alfred Hitchcock was a brilliant masterpiece. I never tire from watching that movie over and over.

  It’s a film that gives me goose pimples even today…only by recalling certain scenes from the film.

I do agree that crows are the cleverest birds of the lot. Just recently I came across 2 crows trying to outwit each other on a roof-top when it came to stealing a piece of roti.

  When it comes to food, any beast or bird will try and outdo the other to get it, especially if they are starving. Why, even humans will fight over food if they are starving. You must have seen how evacuated people fall over each other when food is distributed.

    Caw visited us again this morning and actually brought along a mate. Today being the first day of the new year, we fed both some grain as well as bread. We’ve named the mate CawMate.
