“Button, have you seen the front page of today’s Times of India?”

“Not yet. Why?”

“I’m not telling. Read the paper and check out who’s been written about and clicked! Not only on the front page of the leading newspaper but also on page 2.”

“That’s our Bush! But how did he get there? You told me he had passed away!”

“But that’s Bush. Even in death, he’s immortal. Seeing his photos brought back a smile to my face and lots of memories. My daughter must have spoken to Abodh Aras of WSD a million times about an ailing Bush and he would be attended to immediately and whisked away to the shelter where he would be treated and returned to his familiar terrain once he recovered. When I was driving past that stretch yesterday, I strained my neck to that familiar spot where he was a regular. Someone, who was not aware that Bush was no more, had kept some food for him and his fluorescent green plastic bowl into which we poured water, still stood testament to the time when Bush was around.”

“How did he get the name ‘Bush’?”

“Bush was born around the year 1997 and grew up on the streets of Bhulabhai Desai Road. He was named Bush after it was found out that the 43rd U.S. president, George Bush (Jr) had a pet cat called ‘India!'”

“He had lots of admirers, didn’t he?”

“Tons. There were people who fed him, cared for him, called Abodh Aras of The Welfare of Stray Dogs every time he sneezed and, generally, were crazy over him. He looked very similar to a Dachshund and that footpath just outside the old American Consulate was his territory! I have personally seen him shoo away other dogs. Once he turned weak and frail from old age and failing health, he would share his food with Rini, a friend, and some cats.”

“Bhulabhai Desai Road won’t be the same without our friend!”

“No way. It’s funny how Bush has made a tiny place for himself in my heart! RIP, Bush.”
