December 6. “Button, I read a very interesting bit of news in the TOI today. Apparently the potato and tomato plants are carnivores!”
“What’s that?”
“Carnivores are non-vegetarians. Can you believe that the tomato and potato plants are non-vegetarian?”
“How is that possible?”
“Well, the plants trap small insects with the help of their sticky stems and when these insects die and fall to the ground, their roots suck in the nutrients. Amazing.”
“What’s so amazing about that?”
“Did you ever even imagine that plants can be carnivorous? Tell me—is the tomato a vegetable or a fruit?”
“The tomato is a vegetable.”
“Wrong: It’s a fruit.”
“Really?”
